Officers from the Yonkers Police Department conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Nepperhan Avenue and Morgan Street shortly after 8:45 p.m. on July 26. During the stop, the officer recognized one of the men in the vehicle, Jamie Guzman, who was wanted in connection to a mail theft and check washing scheme, police said.

Guzman was arrested following the stop and charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, identity theft, and grand larceny.

Police said the 30-year-old Bronx resident was wanted in connection to the recent rash of mail theft in the area. The arrest came following an investigation involving the Yonkers Police Department, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, the United States Postal Inspection Services, and local law enforcement agencies. Guzman is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 8.
